A soldier and three other people were feared dead after a tanker exploded at Oluku, Ovia North-East Local Government Area.
The fire reportedly razed the Bob Izua market along the Benin-Lagos highway.
Witnesses said the tanker overturned at about 7:30 a.m., and residents rushed to scoop fuel into their houses.
A witness who owns a shop opposite the scene of the incident said security agencies’ efforts to stop residents from scooping fuel failed.
“It was when they were scooping fuel when the fire started. It spread to the Bob Izua market along the road.
“Many cars were affected in the incident because the fire spread quickly. We have counted four people who died. One soldier is among the dead.” (The Nation)
