At least 28 people were killed when the roof of a private school collapsed in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar on Thursday.
Rescue 1122 Peshawar said rescue teams had pulled 47 children from the rubble and taken them to hospitals.
Of those rescued, 28 died, including a teacher, according to a statement posted on the US social media platform Facebook.
The rescue operation was nearly complete, with 95% of the debris cleared, rescue officials said. However, search efforts were continuing for children who might still be trapped beneath the rubble of the Al-Khair Education Center.
Building collapses are frequent in Pakistan, largely due to lax safety regulations and the use of poor-quality construction materials.
In June, 14 children died when the roof of a private tuition center collapsed in Lahore’s Kahna area. (AA)
