Sudan's Rapid Support Force rebels
Four civilians from the same family were killed by members of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s North Kordofan state, an independent rights group said Friday.
The Emergency Lawyers group said that it documented the Monday arrival of an RSF force at the family’s home in Al-Mazroub in an attempt to loot it.
Family members resisted the attempted looting before the force returned the following day and killed four members of the family, according to the group.
The Emergency Lawyers group condemned the killings as a “grave violation of the right to life” and said they reflect the risks posed by continued attacks on civilians and their property amid a lack of accountability.
The group called for an independent and transparent investigation, accountability for those responsible, and measures to protect civilians and their property.
There was no immediate comment by the RSF.
The Sudan Doctors Network said on Oct. 3 that 25 civilians were killed by RSF forces in Umm Badr in North Kordofan. The group did not comment on that allegation.
The army has recently made broad advances in much of North Kordofan following clashes with the RSF.
The army is approaching control of most of the state, while a few areas, including Umm Badr and Jabra al-Sheikh, remain under RSF control.
Sudan’s three Kordofan states – North, West, and South – have witnessed fighting between the army and RSF since Oct. 25.
Sudan has been engulfed in a war between the army and RSF since 2023 about disagreements related to integrating the military establishment, leaving tens of thousands dead and displacing 13 million people. (Anadolu Agency, excluding headline)
