The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday remanded a Nigerien, Muhammad Ibrahim, arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly transporting ammunition for terrorist activities.
Justice Salim Ibrahim ordered Ibrahim to be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre after he was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to the four-count terrorism charge.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ibrahim was alleged to have delivered about 170 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition concealed in a cooler to one Imrana Halilu in count one.
Ibrahim is the sole defendant in the charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/560/2026 and filed on Sept. 7.
When the matter was called, the prosecution counsel, Abdulazeez Saidu, informed the court that the matter was scheduled for arraignment of Ibrahim.
The defence lawyer, Kauna Penzin, did not oppose the application.
After the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty to the four counts.
Saidu, who applied for a trial date so that the prosecution could call their witnesses, urged the court to order Ibrahim’s remand pending the trial.
Justice Ibrahim therefore ordered the defendant to be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter until Nov. 16 for commencement of trial.
The DSS alleged that in February 2025, at Dankama village, Katsina State, Ibrahim unlawfully conveyed and delivered 170 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition concealed in a cooler to one Imrana Halilu.
The DSS also alleged that Ibrahim knowingly rendered “logistic support to terrorist groups by couriering ammunition in furtherance of terrorist activities.”
The offence, the DSS said, are punishable under sections of the Terrorism (Prevention And Prohibition) Act, 2022.
In count four, Ibrahim, being a Nigerien citizen, was alleged to have fraudulently obtained “a Nigerian National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Identity Card tied to NIN No. 71298898372.”
The offence is said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 22 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015. (NAN)
