Enugu Rangers claimed a comfortable win over Abia Warriors in the Oriental Derby to remain at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League.
The Flying Antelopes dominated the derby as they brushed their rivals aside in a comfortable 3-1 win at the Awka City Stadium
Godwin Ibaje scored the opener in the 37th minute before Chidiebere Nwobodo doubled the lead four minutes after the break. The veteran striker reached 101 goals in the league a few days after he scored his 100th.
Emeka Obioma reduced the deficit a few minutes later as he converted from the spot to ignite a comeback.
However, the hosts maintained their lead as Akorede Daniel restored the two-goal lead in added time to give Rangers derby-day delight.
In other results, Enyimba and Rivers United won in front of their respective home fans. Enyimba, off the 4-2 win over Shooting Stars, beat 10-man Plateau United to record their second win of the season.
Ifeanyi Ihemekwele and Richard Ezinna scored in each half of the match as the Aba Elephant moved to 15th on the log after a poor start to the season.
Rivers United secured a 2-0 win over Ikorodu City in Port Harcourt to continue their dominance over the Oga Boys. Samson Oladipo and Chinemerem Ugwueze got on the score sheet in the first half to secure maximum points for the hosts.
Bendel Insurance put an end to Barau FC’s unbeaten start to the season. The hosts brushed their guests aside in an emphatic 4-1 win at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Shooting Stars remain winless in three matches after the Oluyole Warriors failed to put Nasarawa United to the sword at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
