Lightning strikes
Three residents of Gambiri village in Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State have died after lightning struck the room where they were staying.
The victims were identified as Hauwa Juli, a nursing mother who gave birth seven days before the incident; her daughter, Fatima; and Habiba, who was pregnant at the time.
The incident occurred at about 5:29 p.m. on Monday during a thunderstorm, according to a resident of the community, Abubakar Hussain.
Hussain said the lightning struck the room occupied by the victims, killing the three women and the child.
The victims were buried at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday in Gambiri village, according to the resident.
He said the survival of Hauwa Juli’s newborn baby was a source of relief amid the tragedy.
“One miraculous thing that happened is how Almighty Allah has protected the newborn baby of Hauwa Juli, who survived the calamity,” Hussain said.
He added that the incident had left residents of the community in deep shock and mourning.
The Bauchi State Police Command also confirmed the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said, “Yes, it is true that a thunderstorm has killed three people in Gambiri village.” (The Sun)
