The Osun State Government has established the sum of N500 million endowment fund in honour of those who were killed and injured in tbe build-up to the just concluded August 15 governorship election in the state.
The government also announced that the governor’s family has offered full scholarship to children of the deceased up to University level.
According to a post on Wednesday by Bamidele Salam, the Head of the Media Committee of the Imole Campaign Council, no victims family will be discriminated against on account of party affiliations.
Recall that the Campaign Council had claimed that no fewer than 40 Accord Party loyalists and other residents of the state were either killed or attacked by suspected political thugs.
The Council had pointed accusing fingers at the opposition All Progressives Congress, an allegation that the party had denied. APC had also alleged that about 40 of its members were killed and attacked allegedly by suspected thugs working for the ruling party, a claim Accord also dismissed.
Salam, a member of the House of Representatives, disclosed further that the Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, has been appointed to head a Verification Committee set up by the government to see to the endowment fund and the victims’ families.
