Osun Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has condemned the arrest of the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Sunday Bisi, calling for his immediate release.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor described Bisi’s arrest as an “abuse of law enforcement and an attempt to intimidate political supporters”.

According to the statement, Bisi was arrested at his residence in Ilesa shortly after returning from voting during the ongoing election.

The governor said he was concerned that the reason for the arrest had not been made known, adding that the development could affect the ability of political parties and their supporters to monitor the collation of election results.

Adeleke alleged that the arrest was part of a broader attempt to restrict his supporters from monitoring results at various collation centres.

He further alleged that there was a plan to manipulate the results at collation centres and overturn what he described as victories recorded by the PDP at the polling units.

“This is the biggest assault on democracy, and I urge everyone involved in this desperate attempt to upturn the will of our people through the use of state institutions,” the governor said.

Adeleke called for the immediate release of Sunday Bisi and other persons he described as political detainees across the state.

He said elections should allow citizens to freely choose their preferred candidates without intimidation or coercion. (Saturday Tribune)
