The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old housewife for allegedly attempting to murder her husband by poisoning his meal in Gwamma Village, Bauchi Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Nafi’u Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.
According to the statement, the suspect, who had been married for about 40 days, allegedly introduced a poisonous substance into her husband’s meal on August 12, 2026, at about 3:15 p.m.
The police said a distress call was later received at about 7:40 p.m. from an anonymous woman residing in the Wunti Dada area of Bauchi, who reported the incident.
Following the report, operatives of the ‘C’ Division, Tafawa Balewa Estate, were mobilised to the scene.
The victim was immediately evacuated and taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he is receiving medical treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and, during interrogation, allegedly made a confessional statement admitting to the offence.
The Police said an empty bottle suspected to have contained poison, alongside remnants of the food, was recovered and registered as exhibits.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Aliyu has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet and thorough investigation.
The suspect is expected to be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order across the state, while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. (Channels TV, excluding headline)
