THE Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stop making fake promises to Nigerians, including our sports people on whose back he rides for cheap popularity.
NDC National Publicity Secretary Barrister Osa Director said NDC has learnt with shock that Tinubu has failed to redeem promises of $100, 000 and a house each to the Super Falcons, the female national team, and their officials, following their remarkable 10th title of CAF’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, in July 2025.
The Super Falcons accomplished their campaign dubbed “MISSION X”, X being the Roman numeral for 10, with exceptional flourishing, especially in the final against hosts Morocco, where they cancelled a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 to the delight of Nigerians. It was their 10th title in the competition that is in its 13th edition.
A year after, and less than two weeks to the next edition of the WAFCON, the Tinubu administration has failed to pay the team in line with its tradition of failed promises to Nigerians.
Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade had disclosed that the team was yet to receive the $100,000 and house promised them. Unfortunately, they are not alone.
The basketball queens of Africa, D’Tigress are also still waiting for the presidential largesse of $100,000 promised them along with houses and plots of land. The Tinubu elevated the deceit in March 2026 when purported land documents were ferried to the team’s camp in Montipellier, France, where they were playing in the qualifers of the FIBA World Cup. The money has not been paid.
WAFCON starts on July 26 with a higher stake. All four semi finalists this year will qualify automatically for the Womens World Cup in Brazil next year. Will the Super Falcons be in a frame of mind to give their best in the 14th edition?
Tinubu’s government of deceit and fake manifested again in the government’s plans to increase cost of national secondary school examination fees by 82%. The same Tinubu campaigned in 2022 to pay the examination fee of “every child”. He has never paid a dime in his over three years in power only to turn around and increase the fees. The national outrage forced Tinubu to rethink the plan.
NDC advised Nigerians to distance themselves from the fake promises of Tinubu, and resist them peacefully, insisting that Tinubu has no good policies for the good of majority of Nigerians.
