Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, Hon. Peter Azubuike, has blasted the immediate past Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, over her face-off with the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Ogah.

The face-off led to the detention of Hon. Ogah at the Kuje Correctional Centre, following an Abuja High Court order.

Addressing the lingering political dispute between the former Minister of State, Onyejeocha, and Ogah, Azubuike acknowledged that Onyejeocha has the constitutional right to contest any elective office, but queried what she was looking for again after 16 years of service.

Azubuike noted that Hon. Onyejeocha has, for 16 uninterrupted years, represented the constituency in the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2023 and queried what the former minister would be looking for at the lower legislative chamber.

“With all due respect, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha has every constitutional right to contest any election. Politics is about interests, and I respect that. But the question I ask is: after 16 years in the House of Representatives, what exactly is she still looking for there?”

Likening the political dispute to one aimed at removing Hon. Ogah, Azubuike queried, “Why should anyone think about changing him? How do you remove one of your best players from the pitch?”

He contended that a fair assessment of both lawmakers should be based on measurable performance rather than political sentiments.

Azubuike said while Onyejeocha spent 16 years representing the constituency, Ogah has achieved remarkable milestones within less than four years.

“Compare 16 years with less than four years. Compare the achievements, the empowerment programmes, the constituency interventions, and the impact. The difference is very clear.”

Azubuike vowed that LP will stand solidly behind Ogah. (The Sun)
