Inspector-General of Police, Disu
The Sokoto State Police Command has announced plans to commence a statewide enforcement exercise against vehicles operating without registration number plates and those displaying concealed, altered, defaced or obscured plates.
The Command said the initiative is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and is aimed at strengthening public safety, enhancing intelligence-led policing and preventing the use of unidentifiable vehicles for criminal activities.
In a public announcement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, said the exercise would be carried out across Sokoto State as part of ongoing efforts to improve security and enforce compliance with existing traffic and vehicle registration laws.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that the enforcement drive is intended to enhance security rather than inconvenience law-abiding citizens.
Shaffa urged vehicle owners and operators to ensure their vehicles are duly registered and fitted with approved number plates.
He also warned owners of vehicles with covered, altered, defaced or obscured number plates to regularise their documentation immediately to avoid prosecution and other legal sanctions.
The Commissioner assured residents that the operation would be conducted professionally, transparently and in accordance with the law.
He further called on members of the public to cooperate with police personnel and other relevant agencies to ensure the success of the exercise.
The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state and urged all road users to comply with the directive and other traffic regulations in the interest of public safety and national security.
