Ebonyi ADC Chairman Silas Onu
By CHARLES IWUOHA
The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State, led by Silas Onu, has declared that Mrs. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor is no longer the state chairman of the party, insisting that her tenure expired on May 19, 2026.
In a statement issued in Abakaliki on Friday and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Prince Igu Idika, the party said any action, announcement or endorsement made by Adibe-Nwafor after the expiration of her tenure remains a personal undertaking and does not represent the position of the ADC in the state.
The party also distanced itself from a recent publication titled, “2027 Polls: Ebonyi ADC backs Atiku, launches party unity drive,” describing the claims and resolutions emanating from an alleged stakeholders’ meeting held at Vigo Event Centre, Abakaliki, as invalid.
According to him, the authentic ADC primaries for the 2027 general elections were conducted on May 21 and 22, 2026, in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
The party maintained that individuals parading themselves as ADC candidates without participating in the primaries lacked legitimacy and had no mandate from the party.
ADC further alleged that the meeting was convened by one Hon. Tobias Nnabike Oriji was not sanctioned by the party, describing it as an APC-aligned gathering masquerading as an opposition meeting.
“No notice, approval or mandate was issued by the recognized ADC leadership in Ebonyi State for that meeting. Consequently, all resolutions, committees, endorsements and caretaker arrangements announced there are null and void,” the statement said.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, due process and building a credible opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging members of the public and the media to disregard statements and appointments emanating from the disputed gathering.
