Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas
In a decisive move to curb escalating violence and restore order, the Executive Chairperson of Karim Lamido local government council, of Taraba state, Virginia Baba Bambur, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Karim town, Didango, and other affected communities within the local government area.
The curfew, which took effect on Thursday,, will remain in force until further notice, according to an official statement issued by the Chairperson.
The directive comes amid growing concerns over a worsening security situation characterized by recurring attacks, loss of lives, and widespread destruction of property in several communities across the council area.
Bambur said the measure became necessary to contain the unrest and provide security agencies with the opportunity to restore peace and stability to the affected areas.
As part of the emergency response, the Chairperson directed all security formations operating in the local government, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to enforce the curfew and ensure strict compliance by residents.
The council boss also assured citizens that government authorities would launch a comprehensive investigation into the remote and immediate causes of the crisis. She pledged that individuals found culpable would be identified and brought to justice in accordance with the law.
While expressing concern over the humanitarian and economic impact of the unrest, Bambur appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel.
She emphasized that the local government, in collaboration with relevant authorities, is intensifying efforts to restore lasting peace, security, and normalcy across the affected communities.
Residents have been urged to strictly observe the curfew regulations and avoid actions capable of undermining ongoing security operations.
The latest development which has led to wanton destruction of lives and propert, as observed by The Guardian, underscores the growing security challenges facing parts of Karim Lamido local government area and highlights the urgency of coordinated efforts by government, security agencies, and community stakeholders to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
