Senate President Godswill Akpabio
A group, Kogi Elites Forum, has urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to stay away from Kogi politics.
The forum, which said the state is not Akpabio’s jurisdiction, asked him to focus on his native Akwa Ibom State.
It called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to caution the Senate President from interfering in the Kogi primaries.
The forum made the call in a press statement yesterday.
According to the forum, “Akpabio should steer clear of anything that would destroy the party and work against Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.”
The forum insisted that the people of Kogi have spoken clearly and decisively through a transparent and democratic direct primary.
The statement reads in part: “There was no imposition, no consensus arrangement—only the true expression of the people’s will at the polls. Across all positions, party members came out en masse to elect their preferred candidates, reinforcing the strength of internal democracy within the APC in Kogi State.
“This mandate is not only legitimate but sacred. The voice of the people remains the ultimate authority in any democracy—indeed, it is often said that the voice of the people is the voice of God, as reflected in the outcome of credible elections.
“The Kogi APC stands united behind its duly elected candidates, confident in their capacity to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and deliver meaningful progress for the state.
“We therefore, call on the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to respect the democratic process and refrain from undue interference in Kogi’s political affairs.
“Kogi belongs to Kogites. The mandate freely given by the people must be respected—from the state level to the national level.
