Hajiya Rukayya Haliru, a Nigerian pilgrim from Nasarawa State, has died in the Holy City of Makkah.
The Nasarawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board confirmed the death on Wednesday.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Mallam Idris Ahmad Almakura, disclosed the incident to newsmen in Makkah.
He said the late Hajiya Rukayya Haliru who hailed from Keffi local government, was aged 70.
According to the official, she complained of illness and despite medical efforts, she drew her last breath this morning.
The Executive Secretary of the board alongside other officials and family members of the deceased, were present at the hospital to oversee the preparation and movement of her remains to the Grand Mosque in Makkah for the performance of the Janazah (funeral) prayer, a solemn Islamic rite for the deceased.
He also advised other pilgrims to prioritize their health and report any symptoms early to the medical teams attached to the board.
The Executive Secretary extended the board’s condolences to the Nasarawa State government, the immediate family of Hajiya Rukayya Haliru, and the entire staff and management of the pilgrims’ welfare board.
In an interview, Abdulwab Aboki, one of the relatives of the deceased who also witnessed the entire process, expressed the family’s appreciation to the board for its support and transparency throughout the difficult process. (Daily Trust)
