Police in Benue State have apprehended 11 suspects in connection with the cult-related killing of eight people in Makurdi in the early hours of Monday.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, DSP Udeme Edet, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday and made available to journalists in Makurdi.

According to the statement, “On 11/05/2026 at about 0230hrs a distress call was received from a landlord at Aliade Street high level, Makurdi, that some armed men came to his house, dragged some young men out of their room and shot them.” Detectives were immediately deployed to the scene.

Edet said preliminary investigation revealed that it was a cult-related killing carried out by a team suspected to have been led by one “Odinaka”, who has become notorious for such activities.

She added, “Eleven (11) suspects have been arrested in connection with the case while efforts are being made to arrest the gang leader ‘Odinaka’.” (Nigerian Tribune)
