Banky W and wife Adesua
Nigerian singer and rapper Olubankole Wellington, known as Banky W, has said he takes responsibility for cooking in his home, while his wife, actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington, is not particularly interested in it.
He spoke on The Teju Babyface Show, where he addressed reactions to a viral clip showing him preparing sausages, eggs, and bacon.
The video had sparked conversations online about traditional roles in marriage.
Banky W made it clear that the arrangement in his home is based on preference, not obligation, noting that he enjoys being in the kitchen and sees no issue with taking on that role.
He explained that although his wife can cook, it is simply not something she gravitates towards, while he finds it enjoyable.
He said, “There are some men, my wife must cook for me. My wife does not really cook, which she can cook very well, but it’s not her thing.
“See the way God works, right? I love cooking. Like I enjoy cooking and I love eating and she loves eating. And it just means that if you come to our house, there are some people that will come and see me cooking and they’ll be like, ah, what’s going on. It will make some people uncomfortable but it works for us.
“And I think that’s the thing that people in marriage need to understand, is like what works for you will be different from somebody else. So don’t live your life by somebody else’s expectations or rules.” (Nigerian Tribune)
