Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu
The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was asked to resign on health grounds, describing the story as false and misleading.
In a statement, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said the report, attributed to an online media platform, was a fabrication.
Akosile raised concerns over what he described as a pattern of misinformation linked to the online platform.
He said the governor remains in good health, mentally fit, and fully engaged in his duties.
The reaction follows a report alleging that Sanwo-Olu was under pressure to step down over health issues, with Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat expected to assume office.
The statement reads partly, “This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign-this is another fake news.”
It added that, “Earlier today, the Governor received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for Governor. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, as is customary.” (TRIBUNE)
