Testimony Jaga
A public exchange between gospel artiste Salau Aliu Olayiwola, popularly known as Testimony Jaga, and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has sparked widespread reactions online, with Nigerians sharply divided over issues of theology and governance.
The debate began after Osinbajo, speaking recently during a church discussion, rejected the concept of “prosperity gospel,” insisting that “there is no such thing” and that “there is only the gospel of Jesus Christ,” a position that quickly gained traction across religious circles.
But, in a viral video response, Testimony Jaga countered the former vice president, arguing that the term “prosperity gospel” was misleading and that the message of Christ should centre on hope and transformation.
He also questioned Osinbajo’s moral authority to critique the Church, referencing his time in office and urging him to demonstrate tangible impact, particularly in addressing poverty.
While Jaga’s remarks were brief, reactions on social media platforms were extensive and deeply polarised.
On X (formerly Twitter), a user, Ibukunola Adeola (@IAdeola87928), criticised Osinbajo in pidgin Language, writing, “na today you know, person wey dey aso rock for 8yrs with Buhari as number two man… he didn’t condemn or say a word… how do you call such character anything close to God.”
Another user, Chinenye Eze (@EzeChineny14672), expressed anger, stating, “werey sit down quiet… no bandit was charged… Vice president dey craze to attack prosperity,” reflecting broader frustrations over insecurity and justice.
On Instagram, however, some commenters backed Osinbajo’s theological stance. User @olajideaj17 wrote, “Prof said there’s only one Gospel… preach the gospel of Christ… seek the kingdom of God and all other things will be added including that prosperity.”
Another user, @eddy_zamani, defended Osinbajo’s record in office, noting, “He was not the president and he was limited to decisions. Osinbajo would have done better than Tinubu.”
Similarly, @only1_raihan criticised the backlash against Osinbajo, writing, “Why are Christians attacking this guy? … As a Muslim, I support this guy to the fullest. Yes, preach.” (LEADERSHIP)
