A frontline presidential aspirant under the platform of Action Democratic Party (ADC), Peter Obi, has shed light on his recent meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing it as part of broader consultations focused on Nigeria’s future and the 2027 general elections.

Obi said the visit, which included notable South-East leaders, was centred on finding lasting solutions to the country’s pressing challenges and charting a new course for national development.

According to Obi, discussions with Jonathan were “frank and thoughtful,” with emphasis on the urgent need to reposition Nigeria towards unity, security, stability, productivity, and inclusive governance.

“At a time when our nation continues to grapple with economic hardship, rising insecurity, and deepening social divisions, it has become imperative that leaders across regions come together to reflect, consult, and act in the overall interest of the Nigerian people,” Obi stated.

He stressed that Nigeria requires leadership built on competence, character, capacity, and compassion, rather than personal ambition.

Obi also noted that governance should focus on creating opportunities and driving productivity, rather than merely sharing limited resources, urging a shift from a consumption-driven to a production-driven economy.

He described the 2027 elections as a crucial moment for national rebirth, saying it should go beyond politics to address the needs of ordinary Nigerians, including access to quality education, economic opportunities, and security.

The former presidential candidate expressed optimism that through unity, sincere dialogue, and commitment to doing what is right, Nigeria can overcome its current challenges. (Nigerian Tribune)
