ok movement addresses media on 2027 strategy
The Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement has intensified calls for a political alliance between former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing the proposed joint ticket as a national rescue mission ahead of future elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the Deputy Director-General (North) of the movement, Ambassador Auwal Musa Muhammad, said there was a growing grassroots demand across the country for a merger of what he called competence and integrity, represented by both leaders.
According to Muhammad, the movement is witnessing an organic surge of support from Nigerians seeking an alternative to the current administration, which he criticised for “hyper-inflation, insecurity, and a disconnect from the suffering of the masses.”
“The era of choosing between the lesser of two evils is over. We are building a bridge between the economic foresight of Peter Obi and the grassroots mobilisation strength of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso”, he said.
He argued that the proposed alliance offers a pathway to transition Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to a production-based system, while promoting merit-driven governance.
However, the group also raised concerns over what it described as attempts by political opponents to infiltrate its ranks.
Muhammad alleged that individuals linked to the major political parties were trying to create parallel structures using the OK Movement’s name to cause confusion and disrupt its activities.
“We have credible indications that political mercenaries and fifth columnists are attempting to infiltrate our movement by setting up unauthorized groups under our name. This is a calculated effort to sow discord and weaken a growing national coalition”, he noted.
He urged supporters to avoid forming multiple groups under the OK Movement identity, warning that such actions could make it easier for agents of chaos to penetrate the organisation.
To address the situation, Muhammad announced a directive for centralised coordination under the national leadership of the movement’s Director-General, Dr John Ughulu.
He advised independent support groups backing the Obi–Kwankwaso ticket to adopt distinct names to prevent confusion.
“There is only one recognized OK Movement structure. Any parallel formation not under our central leadership risks undermining this mission,” he stated.
The OK Movement, which positions itself as a grassroots-driven political platform, claims to aim to unify northern and southern political interests and build momentum for what it describes as a national rebirth.
“The North is ready, the South is waiting. We are not just building a campaign; we are organising a transformation anchored on national dignity, security, and productivity”, Muhammad declared. (Nigerian Tribune)
