Mr Peter Obi
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dan Ulasi, has said Nigerians would feel renewed hope for the country after listening to former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, speak privately.
Ulasi made the remark during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday, where he described Obi as a leader with a clear vision for Nigeria.
“If you listen to Peter Obi one-on-one, you will have hope for this country. You will have tremendous hope that somebody has a concept of what he wants to do and how he will do it for the overall benefit of our people,” he said.
The PDP stalwart disclosed that Obi had visited his residence four times in 2026, including a recent visit following his appearance at Coal City University in Enugu.
“He just gave me about 30 minutes’ notice that he was coming. And I called a couple of my friends, some top Southeasterners who were in town. And they came,” Ulasi added.
While he stopped short of declaring any formal political alliance, Ulasi noted that his relationship with Obi dates back to his time as chairman of the defunct National Republican Convention, when Obi first contested for the Anambra governorship.
He, however, expressed concerns about the internal state of the PDP, warning that the party, as currently structured, may struggle to produce a credible candidate capable of challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in future elections.
According to him, ongoing political dynamics involving Nyesom Wike could further weaken the party’s chances.
“I don’t see my party as presently constituted challenging Tinubu with Wike as national leader. These are part of the contradiction, which if I’m not properly informed and explained to, I will leave the party,” Ulasi said. (Nigerian Tribune)
