As part of its commitment to improve service delivery in Anambra State FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited, a subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) responsible for the state has announced the sale of electricity prepaid meters to consumers in the state.
The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Okechukwu Okafor, made the announcement while responding to questions at a two-day public consultation meeting on draft electricity regulations aimed at shaping the Anambra State electricity market.
According to him, the meters which are currently available across its offices in the state include, a single-phase meter sold for N124,000, and a two-phase meter placed at N207,000.
He noted that the company had earlier informed traditional rulers and presidents-general of all communities in the state about the development.
Okafor further cited illegal tampering with energy infrastructure and constant vandalization of company facilities as major causes of blackout experienced in the state.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to aligning with the state l Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a digitalized, livable, and prosperous state.
The First Power MD appealed to residents and security agencies in the state to support the company in its ongoing fight against electricity theft, arguing that illegal tampering with its facilities accounts for about 80 percent of the poor electricity supply in the state
The meeting held at Umuenem Hall Nnewi was organized by the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC).
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the announcement came on the heels of mounting pressure on the MD by the member representing Ihiala II Constituency in the Anambra State’House of Assembly, Hon. Golden Iloh, and other concerned stakeholders from the Anambra South Senatorial District, who demanded answers over the total blackout in the zone.
