A pressure group in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Oyo PDP-Visionaries, has alleged that chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in collaboration with influential figures, were plotting to destabilise the state and undermine Governor Seyi Makinde.

It spoke yesterday in Ibadan following reports of an alleged plan to influence members of the House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor.

In a statement issued by its coordinator, Qudus Olayide, the group dismissed the alleged plot as unrealistic, insisting that residents of Oyo State would resist any attempt to disrupt the prevailing peace and political stability.

According to Olayide, those behind the purported impeachment move underestimated the political awareness of the people, stressing that the state has evolved beyond what he described as “the era of manipulation and political sabotage.”

He warned that the alleged scheme, which he described as driven by “selfish and devilish interests,” would not succeed, adding that individuals linked to the plot—including former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose—were pursuing personal gains rather than public interest.

The group also referenced comments attributed to leaders of the APC suggesting that Governor Makinde should have been impeached earlier, arguing that such statements lend credence to suspicions of a coordinated agenda against the administration.

While noting that former Oyo State First Lady, Florence Ajimobi, had distanced herself from the alleged plot, the PDP-Visionaries maintained that the opposition party still has questions to answer regarding its stance on the issue.

The group stated that the people of Oyo State remain firmly behind Makinde and would resist any attempt to impose political instability. It cautioned those it described as “agents of chaos” to desist or risk public backlash.

It also advised the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, to refrain from partisan politics, warning that any perceived association with political actors could undermine the integrity of the revered traditional institution.

It expressed concern over recent developments involving the monarch, including meetings with political figures, noting that such engagements could be misinterpreted within the context of the ongoing political tension.

The PDP-Visionaries further urged Oba Ladoja to preserve the dignity of the Olubadan stool by remaining above political controversies, particularly at a time when the state’s political climate remains charged.

The group concluded by reiterating its confidence that any attempt to destabilise Oyo State would ultimately fail in the face of popular resistance. (The Sun)
