The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has raised concern over what it described as a surge in killings and abductions in Nigeria within the first 78 days of 2026.
In a statement issued in Enugu, the group said no fewer than 2,340 persons were abducted between January 1 and March 19, 2026.
The figure, according to the organisation, includes 1,690 Christians and 650 moderate Muslims.
“In the last 78 days of 2026… 1,690 Christians and 650 moderate Muslims were abducted,” the group stated.
It added that at least 1,600 people were killed within the same period, including 1,050 Christians and 550 moderate Muslims.
The group highlighted a spike in violence linked to attacks in parts of Borno State, particularly in Gwoza, where returning refugees were reportedly targeted.
“Between 250 and 300 returning Christian refugees were reportedly massacred, while about 400 others were abducted,” it said.
Intersociety also cited incidents in Benue, Plateau, Adamawa, Southern Kaduna and Kwara states, noting that the pattern of attacks remains widespread.
The organisation expressed concern over what it described as increasing vulnerability among civilians, especially in rural communities.
It warned that the trend, If unchecked, could worsen humanitarian conditions and further destabilise affected regions.
