US soldiers fighting in Iran
A member of the US National Guard died during a medical emergency in Kuwait on March 6, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Sunday, marking the eighth US military death since the Iran war began.
In a statement posted on the US social media company X’s platform, CENTCOM said the guardsman died in a “health-related incident.”
“The exact cause of death is under review,” it said.
CENTCOM referred further inquiries to the US National Guard Bureau.
No additional details about the guardsman’s identity or the circumstances surrounding the incident were immediately released.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned that more casualties are likely as the campaign continues. “Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends,” he said earlier this month, noting “we’ll do everything possible where that won’t be the case.”
The announcement came as the US-Israeli joint attacks on Iran entered their ninth day.
The campaign, launched last Saturday, has reportedly killed more than 1,200 people in Iran, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting US military assets and Gulf countries across the region. (Pieced together from Anadolu Agency stories)
