The White House said Thursday that it can’t guarantee that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will not be present near polling locations during the November midterm elections.
Asked about former White House strategist Steve Bannon’s recent comment that “we’re going to have ICE around the polls come November,” Leavitt said she had never heard President Donald Trump consider such a plan.
“That’s not something I’ve ever heard the president consider, no," she said.
Asked whether she can guarantee to Americans that ICE will not be interfering with voters, Leavitt said: “I can’t guarantee that an ICE agent won’t be around a polling location in November.”
Calling the question a "very silly, hypothetical" one, she added: "But what I can tell you is I haven’t heard the president discuss any formal plans to put ICE outside of polling locations.”
The 2026 midterm elections are scheduled for Nov. 3 and will determine all 435 House seats and 33 Senate seats. (AA)
