Governor Mohammed
BY OLAIDE AYINDE
Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has declared Tuesday as a work-free day to mark the state’s 50th anniversary.
This is contained in a statement by Mr Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, made available to newsmen on Monday in Bauchi.
The governor said that the work-free day was for all categories of workers in both public and private sectors of the state for celebration of the state’s golden jubilee.
He described the anniversary as a moment of reflection on the journey of Bauchi State over the past five decades, and to celebrate its achievements, strengthening unity, and renewing commitment to development, peace and good governance.
Mohammed, who urged the residents of the state to use the day to pray for continued peace, progress, and prosperity, also directed them to plant at least one tree in commemoration of the day.
“The tree-planting initiative is designed to promote environmental sustainability, combat desertification, reduce the effects of global warming, and preserve the ecosystem for future generations.
“Let me use this opportunity to urge everyone to celebrate responsibly, maintain peace and order, and demonstrate the values of patriotism, environmental consciousness, and collective responsibility that define the spirit of Bauchi State,” he said.
Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance, inclusive development, and policies that would improve the welfare of citizens and strengthen institutions across the state.
The governor also congratulated all citizens on the historic milestone and called on them to actively participate in the Golden Jubilee activities to make the celebration a memorable and impactful one.
He, however, directed essential service providers to remain on duty in the interest of public safety, and security. (NAN)
