The Northwest University Kano (NWUK), has constituted a committee to probe allegations of misconduct involving one of its academic staff members, Dr Nasa’I Muhammad-Gwadabe.
This is contained in a statement issued by university Head of Public Relations Unit, Abubakar Ibrahim, on Friday in Kano.
The statement said the decision followed the circulation of a video on social media alleging that the lecturer attempted to sexually harass a female student of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN).
“The management viewed the allegations with serious concern and reiterated that it will not condone any form of sexual harassment, abuse or misconduct by its staff or students, irrespective of where such acts were alleged to have occurred,” the statement said.
It further said the committee had been mandated to thoroughly investigate the allegations, establish the facts surrounding the incident and submit its findings to the university management.
“The management wishes to emphasise that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the university’s rules and regulations if the allegations are substantiated after the investigation,” the statement said.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, integrity and ethical conduct, adding that it would ensure justice through a fair and transparent process.
It also appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid speculations and allow the investigative process to run its course.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Maryam Abacha American University (MAAUN), Kano, distanced itself from the lecturer, reiterating its zero tolerance on sexual harassment, abuse and exploitation.
In a statement issued by its registrar, Habibu Awaisu-Abubakar, the institution said that Gwadabe’s appointment as visiting lecturer with MAAUN had already expired in May 2026, and was not renewed.
It said that the said lecturer was no longer affiliated with the institution.
“The management of MAAUN wishes to clarify recent reports on social media that his one-year appointment ended in May 2026, and was not renewed.
“He is therefore no longer affiliated with MAAUN,” the statement said. (NAN)
