Six kidnapped persons were successfully rescued by the Kebbi State Police Command after a fierce gun battle with armed bandits in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
Police spokesman CSP Nafiu Abubakar confirmed the operation on Monday, stressing that it is part of the sustained campaign against banditry and violent crime throughout the state.
The crisis began on Saturday, November 2, when an estimated twelve bandits launched attacks on Ukuhu, Tungar Wazga, and Unguwar Chiroma villages, kidnapping ten residents.
Responding swiftly to actionable intelligence, the Danko Divisional Police Officer deployed a joint contingent of police officers and local vigilantes to pursue the gang. They successfully tracked and intercepted the assailants near the Zamfara border, specifically in Marina village, resulting in an intense gun duel.
The confrontation overwhelmed the criminals, who were compelled to abandon six of their hostages before retreating into the bush. Authorities believe the fleeing suspects sustained various gunshot injuries.
The Individuals recovered were unharmed and identified as Abubakar B. Abubakar (25), Nasiru Magawata (18), Abdul Magawata (15), Buhari Ukuhu (17), Kamalu Magawata (12), and Naziru Magawata (11). Following medical checks, they were reunited with their families.
While four captives remain unaccounted for, the Police Command stated that extensive operations are underway to locate the missing persons and apprehend the perpetrators.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, lauded the prompt and professional conduct of the operatives. He reiterated the Command’s firm commitment to securing the lives and property of citizens and urged residents to continue furnishing security forces with vital information to help crush insurgency in the state.
