Shehu Sani: If Tinubu fails, it'll be difficult for any other president to succeed

Shehu Sani, former Kaduna Central Senator

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu holds a historic responsibility to reset Nigeria’s future, warning that failure to deliver on his mandate could make it difficult for any subsequent president to succeed.

Speaking during an appearance on TVC, Sani said Tinubu has “a unique opportunity to reshape and reconfigure the destiny of this country,” stressing that his administration’s success or failure would define the nation’s political future.

“If President Bola Tinubu fails, I don’t think it will be easy for any other president to succeed,” he said.

The former lawmaker urged the president to prioritize competence over political loyalty in appointments, saying, “The standard he set in Lagos, where he brought the best people to lead, must now be applied nationwide.”

Sani also lamented the country’s “toxic and combative” politics, noting that both the ruling class and opposition see each other as enemies instead of partners in progress.

“Our politics is so toxic that those in government see the opposition as enemies, while those outside power see the government as an enemy,” he said.

He called on Tinubu to make bold, reform-driven decisions — even if unpopular — saying every great nation achieved progress through sacrifice and long-term vision.

“No country dropped from heaven. China, Singapore, Indonesia — they all paid the price for progress,” Sani added. (Daily Trust)
