INEC non-sensitive materials

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has delivered all non-sensitive materials ahead of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election.

Acting Chairman of the Commission, May Agbamuche-Mbu, disclosed this on Tuesday during the third quarterly consultative meeting with leaders of political parties at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Agbamuche-Mbu, who recently assumed leadership following the exit of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said INEC had completed ten out of the thirteen activities outlined in the election timetable, adding that arrangements for the remaining tasks are on course.

The acting chairman assured that the Commission remains committed to maintaining transparency and adherence to the schedule, stressing that political parties must also comply with the campaign deadline of November 6, 2025.

She said: “In less than a month, precisely on 8th November 2025, the Anambra State Governorship Election will be held.

The Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Anambra State Governorship Election details 13 (thirteen) key activities to be carried out by the Commission.

“I am glad to inform you that the Commission has completed 10 (ten) of these activities. The outstanding activities are: the publication of the Notice of Poll, slated for 25 October 2025; the last day for campaigns – 6 November 2025; and the date of the election – 8 November 2025.

“The Commission is committed to keeping strictly to the remaining activities as detailed in the Timetable and Schedule of Activities. Political parties are therefore called upon to be mindful of the last day for campaigns and to adhere strictly to it.

"The Commission has been working assiduously and making arrangements for the successful conduct of the Anambra State Governorship Election and has had several engagements with the security agencies at national, state, and local government levels. All non-sensitive materials for the election have been delivered to the state, and voter education and sensitisation are ongoing.”

She noted that INEC had already conducted successful bye-elections in 12 states in August and was preparing for subsequent polls, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections slated for 21 February 2026, as well as the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections scheduled for June and August 2026, respectively.

Agbamuche-Mbu also revealed that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), which resumed nationwide in August, had recorded an impressive turnout, saying the development is proof of Nigerians’ confidence in the electoral process.

Speaking, Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, congratulated the acting INEC Chairman on her appointment and pledged the Council’s cooperation in consolidating democratic gains.

He urged the Commission to build on the legacies of Prof. Yakubu and ensure credible elections, beginning with the Anambra poll.

According to him, the litmus test of the new leadership is the conduct of the 8 November 2025 Anambra State governorship election, adding that the success of the off-cycle election will set the tone for upcoming polls.

Dantalle also called on the National Assembly to expedite action on electoral reforms, including proposals by IPAC to scrap State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs), reserve special seats for women, restore funding for political parties, and establish an Electoral Offences Commission.
