A civic-tech organization, Citizen Monitors, has launched a web-based election-monitoring tool to empower citizens to record, verify, and view election activities in real time.

This comes one month ahead of the Anambra governorship election holding on November 8, 2025.

In a statement yesterday, the group said the platform aims to make election day “clear, not chaotic”, by turning voters into calm, coordinated witnesses rather than passive bystanders.

“The web app allows users to capture, upload, and view real-time reports from polling units, creating a public evidence base for transparent elections,” the statement read.

Explaining how the tool works, the organization noted that users can upload clear photos or videos of result sheets and incidents tagged to their polling units.

Each report is automatically time-stamped and geo-tagged, then peer-reviewed by other users before appearing on the public dashboard. A statewide map and live ticker would display verified updates as they come in.

Co-founder of Citizen Monitors, Adeshope Haastrup, said trust grows when people can see the evidence.

“With this app, Anambra can protect its polling units with facts, not noise,” he said.

On her part, the organization’s spokesperson, Olajumoke Alawode-James, said the message is simple — see it, record it, verify it.

“If each unit plays its part, election day becomes clearer and safer for everyone,” she said.

This is even as Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, yesterday, accused some politicians of sleeping in the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ahead of the poll.

He said, “These politicians sleeping in the INEC office are trying to get the electoral umpire to manipulate the results of next month’s poll.”

The governor spoke during a panel discussion in Abuja on the topic, ‘Innovation in electoral technology 2015-2025’.

Soludo said, “Should we now, because of what happened in that particular polling unit, and say that the entire election, and so on, was just terrible? No. We all need to work on it.

“The politicians, those of us who are now in politics, I’ve had the privilege of being on the other side. That’s the first one I have in politics. I find it a privilege of being on the other side, having to design this, having to work it and saw the good, the bad, the ugly. And I will tell you, from where we are today, the difference is like the difference between day and night.

“Politicians need to do a lot more to change this Nigerian factor where we believe that nothing can happen without some wuruwuru or some wayo in it. Currently, we’re here and our election is next month. (The Guardian)
