Peter Obi receives the Honorary Citizenship of Georgia certificate
Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, on Thursday, September 25th, was conferred with Honorary Citizenship of Georgia following his participation in a series of events marking Black Congressional Week in Washington, D.C., with a particular focus on Georgia State engagements.
Obi joined U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock at the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception in the Senate Kennedy Caucus Room, where discussions centred on strengthening African democracy and development. Senator Warnock, he said, encouraged deeper dialogue on Africa’s governance future.
The former Anambra governor also held talks with Ms Kim Clark, CEO of Georgia Power, which generates over 20,000 megawatts of electricity nationwide. Obi described the exchange as “deeply insightful,” noting that energy partnerships remain critical to Africa’s growth.
At the One Voice Africa forum, a platform defending Black immigrant dignity, Obi urged stronger advocacy for good governance in Africa, stressing that “the continent’s potential is immeasurable if led by visionary and responsible leaders.”
The day ended on a high note with the State of Georgia conferring Honorary Citizenship on him—an honour Obi said reinforced his commitment to “learning, serving, and building a new Nigeria that is truly possible.” (The Guardian)
