A coalition of more than 750 Nigerian women will converge on the National Assembly (NASS) to press for the passage of the Special Seats Reserved for Women Bill at the National Public Hearing on Constitutional Reforms scheduled for Monday, September 22, 2025.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Women’s Political Participation Technical Working Group, Ebere Ifendu, more than 750 women, drawn from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are participating in the march and the submission of a memorandum to the National Assembly.

According to the statement, the women’s groups are mobilizing under the Women’s Political Participation–Technical Working Group (WPP–TWG), with activities beginning at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development at 09:00 a.m.

From there, the women would march to the National Assembly Complex by 10:00 a.m. to formally present their memorandum to the Senate. At midday, a high-level engagement with stakeholders and the media is taking place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, where Nigerian women leaders will continue to press their demand for inclusive governance and constitutional reform.

Ifendu described the walk as a collective demonstration of unity by women across the country, determined to make their voices heard at the heart of Nigeria’s democracy.

“The Reserved Seats Bill is not just about numbers, it is about securing women’s rightful place in governance and ensuring that their voices are heard where decisions that affect their lives are made,” she said.

She further urged journalists and media houses across the nation to rise to the moment by giving maximum coverage and standing as allies to the women’s cause. (The Guardian)
