Obi during a visit to former president Obasanjo
Details have emerged regarding the recent closed-door meeting between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
TRIBUNE ONLINE gathered the two leaders discussed the state of the nation and how to rescue the country, among other issues.
The meeting is part of a series of widening consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr Obi, who shared details of the visit on his X handle, confirmed he was accompanied by the spokesperson of the Labour Party presidential campaign council, Yunusa Tanko, the party’s 2023 Lagos governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and Segun Adebanjo.
Dr Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, provided further insight into the meeting.
He described It as a gathering of “like minds” focused on the state of the nation.
“It was a meeting of like minds. Remember Mr. Peter Obi served under the leadership of Chief Obasanjo, so there was a need for the two of them to sit and discuss how to rescue the country,” Tanko said.
He added that the discussion also touched on the importance of Nigerians exercising their voting rights.
When asked if the former Anambra State governor had declared his intention to run for president in 2027, Tanko responded, “That is a public declaration. When the time comes, everybody will be informed accordingly.”
Efforts to get a comment from former President Obasanjo were unsuccessful.
One of his aides stated, “It was a closed-door meeting. You can call the Peter Obi people to give you more details.“ (Nigerian Tribune)
