A former student police officer who used "foul and derogatory language" during his first few weeks in the post has been banned from the profession.

Dylan Hartley's behaviour in March 2024 was described as "disgusting and simply unacceptable" during a misconduct hearing into his actions.

Mr Hartley, who resigned from the job in November 2024, did not attend the hearing.

Lee Rawlinson, chief resources officer at GMP, said witnesses testified on three occasions that "Mr Hartley knowingly and wittingly chose to use foul and derogatory language" that was "wholly inappropriate in a society let alone for a serving police office to use".

He said he was satisfied on the balance of probabilities that it "was more likely than not that the offences occurred" and Mr Hartley's actions amounted to gross misconduct.

"Mr Hartley's behaviour was disgusting and simply unacceptable," said Mr Rawlinson.

"There is no place in GMP for such behaviour."

Mr Rawlinson said that if Mr Hartley had not already resigned he would have been dismissed without notice.

Mr Hartley was added to the College of Police's barred list.

The exact nature of the comments made by Mr Hartley have not been released by GMP to protect the victims' identities.(BBC)
