The apex organization representing all the Igbo-speaking people in Abuja by the name ‘Igbo Community Association FCT (ICA-FCT), has called on the Igbo-speaking people resident in the 19 northern states of Nigeria to unit and empower themselves with their permanent voters card (PVC) in order to properly participate in the electoral exercise as full citizens and Patriots of Nigeria.

The call was made following a closed-door meeting in Kano State on September 1, 2025 where the President General of Igbo Community Association FCT, Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, called for the Igbo speaking people to seize the opportunity to obtain their voters card in this period that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened their continuous voters’ registration exercise.

"It is highly important our people come out and register to vote this time around. Nigeria is at a point in history where the Igbo speaking people must participate and show our capacity. We can no longer stay in the corridors," he said.

The Abuja-based Igbo leader also called on the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, to cue into the process to help the Igbo-speaking communities around the country to join and participate fully in the democratic process.

"We must disregard the previous call not to participate in the electoral process in Nigeria. We are Nigerians and we must participate in the democratic process. Not participating has not earned us any quantifiable gains. Now, we must turn to another option, a better option," Ellis-Ezenekwe said.

He explained that Igbo Community Association FCT represents an estimated 3.5 million Igbos in the Federal Capital Territory, adding: “Our target is to get 70% of us registered to vote with their PVCs."

He called on the various Igbo leaders across the 19 northern states to cue in behind the call to encourage our people to register to vote.
