ADC chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo
ADC chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has accused INEC chairman Joash Amupitan of dishonesty, describing him as “a transparent liar” over controversy surrounding pro-APC posts allegedly linked to the electoral chief.
Speaking on Channels Television’s *Sunrise Daily*, Okonkwo criticised Amupitan’s explanation that the social media account in question was merely a parody X account, insisting the claim lacked credibility.
“Can you imagine Joash Amupitan telling you that it is a parody X account… That man is a transparent liar,” Okonkwo said.
He argued that the controversy raises serious concerns about the INEC chairman’s neutrality and integrity, especially given constitutional provisions requiring electoral commissioners to remain non-partisan and possess unquestionable character.
“The constitution is very clear; before a person can be a member of the commission, he has to be a person who is non-partisan and who has unquestionable integrity,” he stated.
Okonkwo further alleged that the INEC chairman’s conduct suggests political bias, claiming Amupitan appeared too closely aligned with President Bola Tinubu.
“INEC chairman, who figuratively is wearing Tinubu’s cap, I can tell you he will not come out of this,” he added.
The remarks come amid growing political debate over the neutrality of electoral institutions as opposition parties intensify scrutiny of INEC ahead of the 2027 general elections. (The Sun)
