President Bola Tinubu will finish third in the 2027 presidential election, according to Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State.

“Tinubu will be third in the 2027 election. I have done my maths and I can tell you Tinubu has no pathway to win. The worst case scenario is that there will not be any winner in the first ballot,” he said on the Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

“Ask yourself, is your life better now under President Tinubu? There is even no pretense of good intentions. We are free to assess our government after two weeks.”

El-Rufai said he has no desire to be minister, stressing that he was a minister at the age of 23 and has no need for the position. He however acknowledged that he was being primed for the post of energy minister, noting that he had a roadmap that could have transformed that sector.

El-Rufai was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and campaigned for President Bola Tinubu, pitching himself against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (APC) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) – his current strongest coalition allies.

“When you join APC, you are immunised from corruption. It is not governors who will decide who wins. It is the people who will decide who wins. I was in APC yet I did not deliver my state. Bola Tinubu did not win his state,” he said.

On terrorism, he claimed that the government often says that it has killed terrorists or destroyed terrorists but the ELEMENTS are often found in the streets.

El-Rufai is one of the leaders of a new coalition named African Democratic Congress (ADC), which wants to dislodge Tinubu’s APC in 2027. Former Governors Chibuike Amaechi and Peter Obi have publicly said they would govern only for a term of four years. But El-Rufai would not hear any of that.

“I want them to stop making this kind of commitment. Nobody believes them. Things change once they get in. We are just building a party and until then, there is no need to make such commitment, which is even unfair,” he noted. (BusinessDay)
