Suspected Boko Boko Haram terrorists on Thursday, ambushed a commercial bus along Maiduguri–Banki road, injuring five passengers.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. in Wudila, a deserted village near Banki, according to security sources.

The sources said the attackers opened fire on a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ASU-255-XA, driven by Mustapha Adam, 50, of Wajare, Banki. The driver sustained a gunshot wound on his back.

Other injured passengers include Musa Mohammed, 41, of Taradal Banki, who sustained bullet wounds on his left hand; Mohammed Bukar Gaji, 61, of Wajare, who fractured his hand after falling from the vehicle; Modu Usman, 35, of Amchide in Cameroon, who sustained gunshot injuries on his neck; and Mohammed Adam, 32, of Bama, who suffered internal injuries on his ribs.

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI were mobilized to the scene for rescue operations. The insurgents fled the area before security reinforcements arrived.

Sources said all victims were evacuated to the FHI 360 Clinic in Banki, where three were treated and discharged, while two others remain hospitalized and are responding to treatment.

No death or loss of property was recorded in the attack, while additional troops have been deployed to reinforce safety along the route. (Zagazola)
