Scene of the accident
At least four people were killed and many others injured on Thursday when a train collided with a company bus at a railway crossing near the town of Naivasha, in central Kenya.
The Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), which owned the bus, said it was transporting staff who had just completed their morning shift at a nearby training centre.
“All injured staff have been evacuated to hospitals within Naivasha for medical attention,” KPC said in a statement, adding that arrangements were being made to airlift critically injured passengers for further treatment.
Emergency teams, including the Red Cross, responded to the crash site, with rescue operations continuing into the afternoon. A Red Cross worker at the scene confirmed that four bodies had been recovered from the wreckage.
While KPC did not specify casualty figures, The Standard newspaper quoted a police commander as saying at least six people had died and scores sustained injuries.
Authorities have yet to release an official death toll as investigations into the cause of the accident continue. (AriseNews TV)
