Adamawa APC Exco drags Binani’s aide to court over Facebook post

Adamu Ibraheem Jimeta

A group of executive members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, has filed a suit against, Adamu Ibraheem Jimeta, an aide to the governorship candidate of the party in the 2023 election, Senator Aishatu Ahmed, popularly known as Binani.

Binani recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from the APC.

However, the complaint, which was filed at the Upper Area Court No. 1 in Yola, with suit number UACY/CR/68/2025, alleged that Jimeta published defamatory content on his Facebook page on July 24, 2025.

According to the suit, the post claimed that some officials of the APC from Gombi Local Government of the state dumped the party.

The post allegedly listed the names of the complainants, including that of a deceased member of the party, Ishiya Jannatu.

The 13 APC officials including Abdulsalam Usman, Yohanna Peter, Mohammed Garba Nyako, and Christiana Livingstone, stated that the publication was untrue and damaged their reputation.

In their sworn complaint, the officials said that the post led to internal confusion, as some APC leaders called for their suspension or outright removal.

The complainants added that several efforts were made to get Jimeta to retract the post and offer an explanation, but he allegedly refused.

He, however, deleted the post a moment later.

The complainants prayed the court to take cognizance of the offences of criminal defamation and mischief, contrary to Sections 377 and 318 of the Adamawa State Penal Code Law of 2018.

They also urged the court to try and punish the defendant under Sections 378 and 319 of the same law.

August 4th has been fixed for hearing, but all efforts to reach Senator Binani or the defendant to comment on the issue proved abortive. (Weekend Trust)
