There are indications that Mrs. Justina Azuka, the widow of slain Anambra State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North 1 constituency, late Hon. Justice Azuka, may enter the race to replace her late husband in the State Assembly.

This is coming on the heels of the emergence of her posters in and around the capital city of Awka.

Azuka was kidnapped on the night of December 24, 2024 while returning to his country home of Onitsha for the Christmas holiday.

Despite rumours of payment of heavy ransom for his release, his decomposing body was later found at the foot of the Second Niger Bridge in February, shortly after his car was also found where it was abandoned.

Following the demise of Hon. Azuka, there have been clamour for his wife to replace him, with many people appealing to Labour Party, LP to nominate her as candidate.

However, her poster is making its round as the candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), hence, leading to controversy about why LP refused to give her their platform as compensation for her husband’s death.

Meanwhile, a source within the LP who spoke on condition of anonymity said: “Initially she was nominated by LP but because of INEC inconsistency in the case between Abure and Nenadi Usman, the leaders of LP moved her candidature to ADC.

“Labour party leaders will be leading her aspiration to victory and that I can assure you 100 percent. LP will also not be contesting against her in that election.”

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), on its part, is fielding a woman from the Ikpeazu dynasty, Mimih Ikpeazu-Azikiwe for the position.
