NUC approves engineering and health science courses for ABSU

Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), is to commence engineering and health science programmes beginning from the current (2016/2017) academic session. This follows the approval of the courses by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

A statement by the Registrar of ABSU, Dr. (Mrs) Evelyn Iheukwumere, disclosed that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor E. Uche Ikonne, announced the NUC’s approval during the 208th Regular Meeting of the University Verification Visit by the commission to the university.
The statement quoted the Vice-Chancellor as naming the approved academic programmes to include Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Studies as well as Faculty of Health Sciences.
Departments under the new engineering faculty include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information and Communication Technology and Surveying and Geo-Informatics
The Faculty of Health Sciences has the Department of Public Health.
The statement enjoined candidates who sat for the 2016 UTME and scored 180 and above to apply for admission into these courses for the 2016/2017 academic session.
This is the first time the university will be offering engineering courses in its 34 years of existence.
