The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter, has warned against the imposition of candidates as the state counts down to the November 16 governorship election.
Addressing newsmen at the end of its rally to mark the International Youth Day, State Chairman of the Youth Council, Comrade Nduanya Innocent, said the youths have resolved to mobilise against any political party that brings out a candidate through emasculation of the power of the people.
“We resolved to fight imposition and any political party with that intention to produce a candidate through imposition would be resisted,” Comrade Nduanya said in the state capital, Awka. “Political parties should let their primaries be free and fair and be seen to be so in the state.” Continuing, he said: “Apart from free and fair primaries, we are encouraging youths to dissociate themselves from thuggery and all acts of violence before, during and after the elections. Even the main election aside primaries should be free and fair; that is our stand.”
Nduanya appealed to all the parties to shun violence and play according to the rules to avoid setting the state on fire.
