Prof Ohiri-Aniche assumes duty as Executive Director of National Institute for Nigerian Languages

Prof. Chinyere Ohiri-Aniche, the current president of the Linguistics Association of Nigeria (LAN), has assumed duty in Aba as the third Executive Director of the National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN). The Linguistics professor took over from another great Linguist, Prof. Ben Elugbe, who recently completed his tenure.

Commenting on the change of guards, a NINLAN senior official said: “The staff of NINLAN bid their out-going head, Prof. Elugbe, hearty farewell with best wishes, and welcome the incoming Prof. Aniche a fruitful tenure, in her job of achieving the national dream for indigenous languages and the quest to get NINLAN degree programme off the ground.”

News Express reports that NINLAN was established, among other things, to train teachers of Nigerian Languages, encourage the study, learning and speaking of Nigerian languages. It is also empowered to award degrees, diploma and certificates. It is a centre of excellence for research in Nigerian languages.
