NUPENG threatens nationwide strike

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) Workers has called on the Federal government to expedite action towards the repairs of the Calabar-Itu Road and the Ikom-Ogoja road as the sufferings encountered by its workers on these roads is becoming unbearable.

According to the National Treasurer, Petroleum Tanker Drivers, many of its members who loaded petroleum products in the past weeks have not had accessed routes for distribution of the products outside Calabar.

Speaking at the failed portions of the road, the NUPENG National Representative said the Union will embark on the industrial action in the coming days if nothing concrete is done on the roads to alleviate the sufferings of the masses.

Thousands of heavy duty tankers as well as smaller vehicles ply these routes on a daily basis for commercial purposes outside the state.

The road constructed over four decades ago has made residents in recent times be subjected to continuous suffering, as they have had to spend hours and in some cases days and weeks without getting to their destinations.

The NUPENG has risen up to speak against the injustice meted on them as a result of the road which is telling on their businesses.

The association has also condemned this development which has become a re-occurrence and also narrated the hardship the communities around the failed portion of the roads have subjected them to. (Channels TV)
