The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), said on Saturday that daily rail transport is resuming on Monday on the Jos-Bukuru corridor a year after the service was halted.
In early 2024, the state government began free daily rail transport on the said corridor, but the service was halted one year after the commencement of the project.
The state government had in 2024 said it was in partnership with NRC to revive the rail service in the state, explaining that the initiative was aimed at connecting communities and reducing travel costs within the state.
Disclosing the resumption to Daily Trust in Jos, spokesperson of the NRC, Jos station said the train will operate four daily trips between Bukuru and Jos Terminus, with stops at Old Airport and Dogon Karfe stations.
While announcing the commencement of the service, the NRC called on passengers to always arrive at the station at least 10 minutes before departure, reiterating that preparations have been concluded.
He said the service was earlier halted mainly to secure a date for the official flag-off of commercial operations “and not for any malfunctioning, adding that the “resumption of the service is at no cost whatsoever to the state government.” (Daily Trust)
